And the winner, in female category, for 2021, is Mao!
- Name: Mao Takebe
- Age: 16 years old
- Nationality: Japanese
Wa had the pleasure to have a little interview with her; here’s what she told us:
“I am 16 years old and I’ve been slacklining for 7 years. In practice, first, I train to raise the height with basic buttbounce and chestbounce tricks. Next, I practice technique and combos using those techniques. And at the end, I will challenge techniques which I cannot do yet! I don’t know what kind of tournament there is yet this year, but I would like to participate in more of them! Also, I would be happy if there would be more online tournament where everyone in the world could compete. Last year’s tournament was satisfying, there were many improvements seen. Based on the improvements, my goal is to become a stronger rider this year and be able to compete with boys! I like trickline because no matter how many tricks you can do, new tricks will come out and you will be able to take on challenges all the time!”
Congratulation to all of you! You are an inspiration for all trickliners in the world!
Coming to male category, a weird thing happened: we have 3 athletes that scored the exact same amount of points, so they are actually sharing the highest place on the podium! All of them won two master size competitions in 2021, scoring at 1800 points! In 2021 and 2020, unlike the years before, there was no world cup size competition in tricklining.
Let’s start with Louis then!
- Name: Louis Boniface
- Age: 24 years old
- Nationality: French
Louis Boniface is a well known trickliner in the European scene, known also from his Guinness world record for the very first triple butt backflip landed!
He told us that he likes to be independent, and also that he would like to see a big improvement in contest organization, because tricklining, in his opinion, deserves more than what it has got currently.
Plans for 2022? He’d like to join the Natural Games contest and the Outdoor Mix Festival.
Next winner is Marius!
- Name: Marius Kitowski
- Age: 25 years old
- Nationality: German
Marius, 10 years experience in slacklining, now trains three to four times per week, plus 2-3 times weightlifting, 2 times endurance and maybe 1-2 time trampoline (Wow!)
This year he joined the Redbull Slack Warrior, a completely new format and a new experience. “..it has been absolutely insane” he said. Then, Marius got 3rd place at the Pangea Trickline competition in Rostock: “Sick event during a big lifestyle and music festival”.
Next, he competed in the Adrex trickline Open, in the Czech Republic. Last one was the competition in Sevillia, Spain. In both of them, Marius got 1st place.
“This year was super sick. Even tho I broke my foot at the end of the season, I am super happy about how this year turned out. Looking forward to this years events”
About tricklining, Marius told us that he likes “… the uniqueness about the sport. I come from a competitive swimming background and this was a very strict environment with many rules. Tricklining gives me the chance to feel free and express myself with a creative movement approach”
And the last 2021 winner, in male category, Hendle!
- Name: Hendle Santos
- Age: 27 years old
- Nationality: Brasilian
Here’s what he told us:
“I’ve been practicing Slacklining for 7 years. My training is 3 times a week tricklining and once a week Highlining\Midlining. Sometimes we do physicals training to strengthen the body. This year there were important competitions, such as the Slackline South American Championship, which two took place online, and the Bop Games Championship, which is the largest multi-sport event in Latin America.
These two competitions were incredible with magnificent high level athletes. I was very pleased to participate in these competitions.
I hope 2022 will be a year of many competitions, new athletes, new projects and growth for our slackline sport. I am very grateful to have known this sport that has changed me upside down.
What I like the most about tricklining is an incredible session of executing maneuvers, the lever you are in the air, the emotion of battling with friends and evolving together with both.
Trickline gives you the feeling of being alive and having a feeling of being inspired without even having jumped from a parachute.”
